Morning Routine

Math – While the students worked on math centres, I worked with Emery, Parker, Nev, Jiselle, Caden, Chase, Sam, Leica, Max, Niki, and Maggie.

Recess

Daily 5 – Hi-5 Groups. I read with Phil, Erik, Niki, Adrita, Maggie, Caden, Dom, Jiselle, and Sidd.

Lunch

Personal Reflection – The students completed personal reflections to be referred to during 3-Way Conferences.

Talking Circle – We had a warm&fuzzy circle where we shared things that we’ve noticed that other students are good at.

Morning Routine

Math – We continued to look at addition “mysteries”. We also talked about the importance of knowing all of the different math facts that make 10. Students need to know (by memory) that:

10 + 0 = 10, 9 + 1 = 10, 8 + 2 = 10, 7 + 3 = 10, 6 + 4 = 10, 5 + 5 = 10, 4 + 6 = 10, 3 + 7 = 10, 2 + 8 = 10, 1 + 9 = 10, 0 + 10 = 10

We will continue to practice memorizing at school, however additional practice at home can be beneficial for students who are having difficulty remembering these facts.

Recess

Daily 5 – We learned a new “CAFE” accuracy strategy – using the pictures/diagrams/illustrations to help us figure out words. The students achieved a new Read to Self record today!! Way to go Grade 2’s!!!

PWIM – We talked about how to write paragraphs, and the students started writing their own paragraphs based on our PWIM poster. In Grade 2, the goal is to be able to write paragraphs of at least 6 sentences.
