Morning Routine

Math – We learned one new patterning centre. During math centres I worked with Emery, Annalise, Parker, Luke, Jiselle, Kellan, Chase, Siddhartha, and Maggie on increasing patterns. We are working on being able to “find the rule” (how a pattern is increasing/what is happening to it every time) so that we are able to continue the pattern.

Recess

Daily 5 – In groups the students rotated through Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, and Work on Writing. For Listen to Reading, we read Amelia Bedelia by Peggie Parish and talked about re-reading words, sentences, and sometimes pages to make sure we understand what we are reading.

Lunch

Weekend News Duotangs – Oops! We forgot to read our Weekend News Duotangs during Daily 5. Max, Siddhartha, and Caden read for us today.

Talking Circle – We talked about BIG deals vs. little deals, and about problems we can deal with ourselves vs. problems that we need to tell a teacher. We identified that some big deals in our class are someone getting VERY hurt, stealing personal possessions, and recess issues where a student ignores the words “No” or “Stop” AND ignores the recess supervisor.

Social – We started a new unit about the history of Regina. Today we learned about what Regina was like before it became a city. We imagined what it would have been like to live in Regina before there were roads, houses, and buildings. The students helped come up with a plan for how we can continue to learn about the history of our city. One of the ideas was to ask people who have lived in Regina for a long time. A note was sent home today asking for stories from the past, as well as a sheet to help students record what they learn so that they can share the story with the class.
