I have been away with the flu for the past 2 days. By the sounds of it, things went well with both guest teachers. It was so nice to be back at school today! We started our day off by changing our carpet spots since it is a new month.

Morning Routine

Math – We learned a new math centre, Part-Part-Whole Puzzles. During math centres, I worked with Siddhartha and Maggie. I am now done with all of the counting assessments. As a class we are beginning to look at increasing patterns.

Daily 5 – Read to Self and Read to Someone. I am done most students’ reading assessments, and should be finished by the end of next week.

Lunch

Phys. Ed. – Ms. Bechard

Music – Mrs. Machnaik

PWIM – We continued to consider ways we can sort our PWIM words. Some of the categories we have talked about are nouns, verbs, words that have consonant blends, words that have long/short vowel sounds, and singular/plural words. Here are some of the students’ word sorts. Can you figure out the categories they used?

Author Study – As the month of September has come to a close, we are finishing up our study of Mo Willems. We decided to write him a letter as a class about how much we have enjoyed reading his books.

**I sent home a note today about an activity we will be doing tomorrow. If you did not receive this (I found 3 on the floor!!), here is what it said:

As a part of our Social Studies unit, we will be talking about cultural groups in the Regina community and our individual heritage. Please talk to your child about the heritage of your family, as well as about any family traditions (specific foods, dance, songs, clothing, etc.) your family may have that are related to your family heritage. We will be sharing this information informally TOMORROW (October 6th) in a class talking circle. Thanks!
