***Please email me if you need me to send you another copy of the checklist for tomorrow’s field trip. Please ensure that lunches/snacks and clothing follow the recommended guidelines. Your child is responsible for any extra items they may choose to bring (camera, binoculars) so please speak to them about proper handling of such items.

****Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather and on time for school tomorrow as we will be leaving first thing in the morning. We will be returning to the school at 3:20.

Daily 5 – While the class rotated through Hi-5 groups, I continued to complete reading assessments.

Phys. Ed. – We had a pretty epic girls vs. boys dodge ball game!

Science – We read about different local animal homes, and considered how animal habitats must include shelter, food, and water for an animal to survive/thrive.

***Please start planning/packing to ensure your child is ready for our field trip on Thursday. The checklist sent home last week includes everything necessary for a fun day in nature. We discussed good lunch/snack options today and your child should be able to help you out if you are unsure of what to pack.

****Please send your child to school prepared to go Brown’s Coulee on Thursday regardless of weather. Decision to cancel will be made once students have arrived at school.

Science – We examined the life cycles of 6 different animals. Each group learned about and taught the class about their animal’s life cycle.

Comic Art Presentation – We had guests from Freeze Comics in to do a presentation on comic art! Parker was a winner in the draw and won a picture by one of the artists!

Daily 5 – We learned about a CAFE comprehension strategy, “Contrast and Compare” and practiced as a class. The class did 2 rounds of Read to Someone to practice this skill.

Daily 5 – News Duotangs & Flashlight Friday. During our News Duotang time, the Grade 1’s came to observe what it is like to be in Grade 2. The class did an excellent job demonstrating their maturity and independent writing abilities.

Science – We read a book about the life cycles of some animals. The students went back and considered the what the life cycle of their created animal would look like.

French – Mme. Jasper

Arts Ed. – 3 groups presented their puppet shows for us. Great job!

We finished off our day with some reading in the shade outside 🙂

***Due to a busy afternoon and HOT classroom, I unfortunately did not have the chance to correct News Duotangs. The students were told they would earn 5 homework stars if they used a pen to circle letters sitting incorrectly on the line or formed incorrectly.****

Daily 5 – Hi-5 Groups – I read with Dominic, Sidd, Chase, Caden, Maggie, and Leica.

Lunch

Talking Circle – We talked about what playing fairly vs. playing unfairly looks like and sounds like. This served as a much needed reminder for many students in the class.

Science – We reviewed the defining qualities of mammals, amphibians, fish, birds, reptiles, and insects. The students designed their own animals including their name, habitat, diet, and classification.

Morning Routine

Math – We learned 3 new number sense games and practiced with a partner. Our games involved counting on or back from any given number from 1-200, quickly determining if numbers are odd or even, and figuring out different numbers that can be added together to make 100.

Daily 5 – Listen to Reading (Annalise read for the class), Read to Self, and Work on Writing. We worked on writing AABB and ABAB poems with rhyming ending words.

Science – We started our new animal science unit. We considered different ways of grouping a variety of animals and insects, and eventually were able to sort them all into 6 groups: mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and insects.

Unfortunately both Music and our scheduled Reading Buddies were cancelled due to the musical performance this afternoon. We headed outside and added the last 2 rules to our pirate game.
