Daily 5 – We played Word Work games as a class.

Talking Circle – The students shared what they would like to do for our last day of school party.
Math – We started working on graphing data.

***Play Day is on Friday. Please ensure that your child is dressed comfortably for running and playing outside (ie: no dresses, no flip flops) and has on sunscreen and a hat.
****For Play Day, students must wear clothing reflecting their team colour in order to be easily identified. Please see team colours below:

***Tomorrow is Smurf Day! Students are to dress in red, blue, and white to earn spirit points for our class.

***Our annual K-4 Play Day is on Friday, June 2nd and we are hoping to gather a few supplies. If you are able to donate materials, please follow the link to the sign up.

Math – We learned one new math centre called 101 & Out.

Science – The student pairs shared what they learned about animals’ diets, habitats, body coverings, and life cycles.

Special Activity – The class earned a reward for getting 10 points and chose to redeem it by having a game period with Mrs. Lekivetz.

Daily 5 – We learned a new CAFE strategy to help expand vocabulary. The students did a round of Read to Self and then did some writing and sharing to practice using this strategy.

Genius Hour – As arrangements are being made with all of the Genius Hour experts to come at different times, we did not have a Genius Hour work period. The students worked on a quick teamwork STEM challenge of building cup stacks without using their hands.
Math – The students worked on math centres while I continued math assessments.
Recess
Science – In partners, students used books to research animals. They had to identify their habitat, body covering, and diet, as well as 2+ interesting facts.

Math – We learned one new math centre. During math centres I worked with Parker, Luke, Chase, Grayson, Phil, Sidd, and Erik.
Recess
Daily 5 – Chase, Kellan, and Ava read their News Duotang messages for the class. The students wrote in their journals about our field trip to Brown’s Coulee and practiced peer-editing each others’ writing.
Lunch
Science – We talked about some of the animals that we saw on our field trip and their classification, life cycles, diets, and body coverings.

Recess
Arts Ed. – Emery, Max, Luke, and Leica performed their puppet show for us. We took a quick dance break and then learned how to play the Game of Go/Chinese Checkers.
Clean-up & Quiet Time – Leica read for us.
***We are out of whiteboard markers (which we use daily for spelling practice) and kleenex and could desperately use some donations to get us through the rest of the school year. Please help out if you can!
We had a wonderful time at Brown’s Coulee today! Our guide was fantastically knowledgeable and patient and ensured that every child walked away learning at least one new thing. The ticks were not nearly as bad as expected (only 2 sightings), however, please check your child tonight just in case.
We got to see some fantastic wildlife! 2 turkey vultures, a muskrat, and a mother raccoon and her babies tucked away in their burrow!

Daily 5 – The students requested to do Weekend News Duotangs & Flashlight Friday since we will not be able to do them on our field trip tomorrow and there is no school on Friday.

***Please email me if you need me to send you another copy of the checklist for tomorrow’s field trip. Please ensure that lunches/snacks and clothing follow the recommended guidelines. Your child is responsible for any extra items they may choose to bring (camera, binoculars) so please speak to them about proper handling of such items.
****Please make sure that your child is dressed for the weather and on time for school tomorrow as we will be leaving first thing in the morning. We will be returning to the school at 3:20.

Math – I continued to work on number sense assessments while the students worked on math centres.

Daily 5 – While the class rotated through Hi-5 groups, I continued to complete reading assessments.
Lunch
Phys. Ed. – We had a pretty epic girls vs. boys dodge ball game!
Science – We read about different local animal homes, and considered how animal habitats must include shelter, food, and water for an animal to survive/thrive.

Clean-up & Quiet Time – Caden and Eric read for us.
***Please start planning/packing to ensure your child is ready for our field trip on Thursday. The checklist sent home last week includes everything necessary for a fun day in nature. We discussed good lunch/snack options today and your child should be able to help you out if you are unsure of what to pack.
****Please send your child to school prepared to go Brown’s Coulee on Thursday regardless of weather. Decision to cancel will be made once students have arrived at school.
